All About Angles

In this section we will cover two basic types of angles within geometry:

Correspodning and Alernate angles

Corresponding angles are formed when a transversal crosses a pair of parallel lines. They are mearly angles with the same measure and degree on matching corners.

There is a Theorem to back this princple up and that is the Corresponding Angles Theorem. It stated that if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of corresponding angles are congruent.

Alternate angles are also formed when a transversal cuts a pair of parallel lines however, these alternate angles are those angles congruent to the other on the opposite side. We divide these types of angles into subcategories:

Interior Alternate angles: The pair of interior angles that are on opposite sides of the line but congruent.

Exterior Alternate angles: The pair of exterior angles that are on opposite sides of the line but congruent.

The theorem to back these ideas up are the alternate interior angles theorem states and the alterante exterior angles theorem. They both state that if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of alternate interior/or exterior angles, respectively, are congruent.
